Teaching on patience and compassion
The importance of love, compassion and tolerance are emphasised in all the major religions of the world. This is especially true in the Buddhist traditions, all of which state that compassion and love form the basis of every spiritual practice. If we want to fully develop the potential for love and compassion that we all have within us, it is essential to be able to control their opposites – hate and aggression.
The Dalai Lama will comment on the practice of patience and tolerance that can overcome these obstacles of aggression and hate. He will base his talk on A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, the classic text by Shantideva on the deeds of bodhisattvas: those who cherish the aspiration of achieving full Enlightenment for the sake of all beings.
The techniques and methods that will be discussed are not only meant for Buddhists but for everyone who would like to become a better human being. With the aid of this teaching, and as a living example of the practice, the Dalai Lama will show us how much we can achieve by exercising patience and tolerance in our struggle against aggression and our striving towards peace.
